WORK EXPERIENCE
2022 Store keeper, Islesford Boatworks, Islesford, Maine
Gave the history of the Blue Duck building where Islesford Boatworks ran their boatbuilding programs for kids and adults in the community to the tourists who came in every day. I ran the cash register, upkeep of the items in the shop, caned a seat for a canoe, hammered donor names onto wooden shingles, and made sure the bathrooms were locked up every night.
2015-Present Owner/Artist Barnacle Studios, South Portland, Maine
I am the current owner/artist of my own business. I paint, knit, needlefelt, and create artwork to sell to my customers. I manage my own finances and keep my materials in order.
1998-Present Mom & Wife. South Portland, Maine
I was a stay-at-home mom to three children, two years apart. A singleton and twins. I juggled food preparations, clothing preparations, outdoor activities, swim lessons and other daily activities, grocery shopping, dog and cat wrangling, art activities, storytime, to and from school, doctor appointments, time management, learning coping mechanisms for three children who all learned totally different ways of doing things.
2013-2018 Co-Owner, K & R Bagpiping Enterprises, Falmouth, Maine
Designated driver to and from events. Played the bagpipes for a variety of events like weddings, funerals, birthday parties, anniversaries, fairs, Fourth of July events, LODD parades all over New England, participated in Highland Games in Topsham, Maine, and New Brunswick, Canada, played memorials for IAFF in Colorado, educational demonstrations at local elementary schools in the Greater Portland area.
2008-2012 Vice President, Maine Public Safety Pipe & Drum Corps, Southern Maine
Aided the Pipe Major with traveling to and from piping events, helped with uniform preparation, took notes during meetings, practiced marching, and learned new tunes for performances.
1993-1997 Wire Operator, Prudential Securities, Portland, Maine
I was given stock orders from the stock brokers to buy or sell stock, futures, money market funds, mutual funds, etc by wiring the instructions to the stock exchange in New York City. If there was a problem, it was my job to call the New York Stock Exchange to get the price changed, the amount changed, or to verify an order or a sale dependent on the brokers in my office. I also did the paperwork for opening and closing customer accounts and answered the phone, did the filing and did minor cleanup.
1991-1993 Bank Teller, Key Bank, Freeport, Maine
I handled large sums of money brought in from the local merchants. I was required to count it all by hand, fill out the necessary paperwork if it was over a certain amount, write the deposit slips and input the information into the computers. Light duties of answering the phones, answering bank questions, and referring customers to the proper management for accounts was necessary. I was also responsible for working the drive-thru when it was my turn.
WORKSHOPS
2022 Mira Ptacin writing workshops online
Mira hosts Zoom writing workshops. She provides the group with writing prompts, giving us 5-10 minutes to write down poetry, a short story, and lists of whatever fits the prompt. We then take turns reading what we have written, discussing what we liked/didn’t like about the piece, and moving on to the next exercise. It gives us the chance of meeting new people in and out of Maine who all enjoy the writing process.
2012-2013 Islesford Painters Workshop, Islesford, Maine
This was a week-long workshop put on by the owners of the Islesford Dock Restaurant. They paired together two artists from the island, Henry Isaacs and Ashley Bryan to teach us how to paint in any medium we chose. We spent the mornings learning new techniques before setting out to paint somewhere on the island. If it was raining, easels and drawing boards were set up in the restaurant for us to paint still-life setups. In the afternoon, we would gather together and have a critique of what we had done during the day.
