When I was younger, I wanted to be a writer. I was always reading murder mystery stories by Ngaio Marsh or Agatha Christie. I loved Spencer, the character in the Robert B. Parker books or a great Dick Francis horse racing mystery. The books I loved the best were horror. I loved Clive Barker and my favorite, Stephen King. When I wasn't reading, I was drawing. My favorite classes in school, other than Creative Writing, were all the art classes. I didn't have to think as much. Everything seemed to come together on their own. I did what felt right and usually, the artwork came to being on its own.
I am a firm believer in karma, good mojo, feelings...whatever you want to call it. I often think what gets created, gets done because it wants to. When I knit mittens, my yarns are usually in a big bucket. I stick in my hand and what comes out is what goes into the mitten. The majority of the time, it works. A few times it doesn't. It's as though the colors speak to me. They speak when I am painting as well. When all is right and well, a painting can come out looking fabulous but when the feeling is off, the painting often looks immature and as though I have lost all my abilities to draw. Nothing flows well and I get frustrated.
I started Barnacle Studios because I was running out of space to put all of my creations. Many people seemed to like my paintings, my mittens and now my dryer balls so I started selling them. Under this name, I can do whatever I want. I am not limited to one thing. This website is designed to let you see what I do. If you are interested in anything here, please let me know and I can tell you the best way to purchase what you want.
