Dryer balls are a great alternative to dryer sheets. Dryer sheets are made from harsh chemicals that can create all kinds of health issues. Many stores sell plastic or rubber dryer balls that are better, but they make a lot of noise in the dryer and they may last just a few months.
My dryer balls are 100% wool with no rubber or plastic so they are quieter in the dryer and they last much longer. I start with a core of leftover wool yarn from the mittens I make. I then wrap the core with an alpaca roving or a wool roving from Clun sheep. I get the wool roving from a local farm in Leeds, ME. When the ball is the size I like, I needle-felt the wool until it is solid and round. The next step is decorating the ball with either colored roving or yarn.
Although there may be similar design elements for the balls, no two designed balls are exactly alike. The balls are then put into the leg of a pantyhose (I can fit 13 into a Queen size leg) and then tossed into a load of laundry. They run through both the washing machine and the dryer. I then string 3 balls together as a set. These balls can last at least 3-5 YEARS with proper care. Mine live in my dryer. They only ever come out if they get stuck in a pocket or a shirt sleeve. A couple of times, my husband has accidentally taken them to work. The cats also love them….and the dog likes to play with them too…...and the kids. They like to throw them at each other. They also make great practice juggling balls!
My dryer balls are unscented. I have many customers who love to scent their dryer balls with essential oils before tossing them into the dryer. I have done this myself but I do warn that essential oils MAY stain your balls, so use at your own risk.
Dryer balls are sold in sets of 3 per bag. The price of a bag is $25.00. If you would like me to mail them to you, there is an additional $8 charge for shipping. If you live close, I can always drop them off for you. Selection of dryer balls is chosen by the artist. If you have questions, or would like to order a set of dryer balls please send me an email to: ksavidge@maine.rr.com or call me at 207-450-9839. Dryer balls are NON-REFUNDABLE and CANNOT BE RETURNED.
